Conley Chosen To Play In SAL All-Star Game

SALISBURY, Md. - Former Towson University standout Brian Conley of the Delmarva Shorebirds has been named to the South Atlantic League North Division all-star team and will play in the South Atlantic League all-star game on June 22 at Fluor Field in Greenville, S.C.

Playing his second full professional season, the Gaithersburg, Md. native was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 17th round of the draft two years ago.

Conley has been the Shorebirds' leading hitter this season. In 57 games, he is batting a team high .302 with 27 runs scored. The tenth-leading hitter in the South Atlantic League, he leads the Shorebirds with 57 base hits. Conley also has ten doubles, three triples, one home run and 13 runs batted in.

He also leads the Shorebirds with 41 walks and a .424 on-base percentage. He is second in the SAL in both walks and on-based percentage.

"Brian is very deserving of the honor because he has been very consistent for us on a day-in and day-out basis," says Delmarva Manager Ryan Minor. "He has been our most consistent offensive player all year."

Conley is one of three former Tigers playing on the Delmarva roster. A pair of 2009 Towson graduates, shortstop Gary Helmick and catcher Jason Stifler, are also playing for the Shorebirds. Helmick and Stifler are both first-year members of the Orioles' Single-A affiliate.

A second team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection as a senior, Conley led Towson with a .352 batting average in 2008. He hit 16 doubles, one triple, and 12 home runs. He ranked fifth in the CAA with 65 runs batted in and he scored 50 runs.

A starter in 56 games in rightfield, he was named as the CAA Player of the Week in mid-April after batting .421 with five homers and 13 RBI's in five games.

A three-year starter who saw action at seven different positions during his college career, Conley finished third on Towson's all-time list of home run leaders with 36. A .319 hitter in his career, he ranks 11th on Towson's all-time list with 209 base hits. He also scored 149 runs, eighth on the all-time list, while his 155 career RBI's place him fourth.

In his senior season, he led Towson to a final record of 30-28 and a berth in the CAA Tournament. Led by Conley, the Tigers finished as CAA runners-up after entering the tournament as the number six seed. In the CAA Tournament, Conley batted .412 with two home runs and nine runs batted in. He was also named to the CAA All-Tournament team.
