MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - Although Courtney Wittner and Erika Stasch each had a pair of hits, the Tigers dropped a 6-3 decision to the College of Charleston on the final day of Charleston's Cougar Classic.
The Tigers struck first by scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Rachel Miller led off with a double and came around to score when Andrea Stevenson singled and the Cougars made an error on the play. Stevenson scored one batter later when Sammi DiPompo lifted a sacrifice fly to left field.
The Cougars cut the lead in half with a run in the bottom of the first.
The Tigers maintained their 2-1 lead until Charleston came to bat in the bottom of the fifth. The Cougars scored five runs on three hits in the frame. The decisive hits in the inning came when Kristi Woodall hit a two-run triple and Katie Nutaitis added a two-run double.
Towson got a run back in the top of the sixth inning. Brianna Jones reached on a one-out bunt base hit and moved to second when Delanie Dunham walked. Mickelle Oslin then pinch-hit and drove a ball back up the middle to score Jones. That was all the runs the Tigers could get and the Cougars secured the victory.
Alexa Dakota earned the win for the Cougars by allowing three runs on nine hits in seven innings of work. Katie Lingmai suffered the loss for the Tigers. She gave up six runs on five hits in five innings of work. Dominique Ortega hurled the sixth inning for the Tigers and did not allow a base runner.
