Tigers Fall to UNC Wilmington, 76-47

TOWSON, Md. - Despite 12 points apiece from Krystal Parnell and Krystin Fields, the Tigers fell to UNC Wilmington by a 76-47 score on Thursday night. Fields added five rebounds to tie for the team lead in that category.

"UNC Wilmington just outplayed us tonight," said Coach Joe Mathews. "We have some work to do so that we can try and bounce back in the next game and give our seniors a win in their final home game Sunday."

With the scored tied at 4-4, UNC Wilmington went on a 21-4 run to open up a 25-8 lead with 10:22 to play in the first half. Alisha Andrews started and capped the run with a triple. The two teams traded baskets with a Brittany Blackwell lay-up at 6:47 putting the visitors up 33-12. The two teams continued to trade baskets with Parnell hitting the final bucket of the half at 1:08. UNC Wilmington took a 42-19 lead at the break.

UNC Wilmington shot 73.1% from the floor in the first half and got 13 points from Blackwell. Towson shot 35% from the floor and got 10 points from Parnell.

Towson started the second half by scoring eight of the first 10 points to make it a 44-27 game with 16:17 to play. A jumper by Martha White at 12:42 put the Seahawks up 55-29. The two teams traded buckets over the next several minutes. Fields hit a lay-up at 5:41 to make it a 63-36 game. The Tigers and Seahawks continued to work on both ends of the court as Jessica Cohen converted a pair of free throws at 3:01 to put the visitors up 74-41. That was UNC Wilmington's largest lead of the game. Towson scored six of the final eight points in the game to make it a 76-47 final. Fields had five of the Tigers' six during that stretch.

UNC Wilmington finished the game shooting 59.2% from the floor and 100% from the free throw line. Towson shot 37% from the floor and 59.1% from the line. The Seahawks held a 31-22 edge in the rebounding battle.

Parnell reached double figures for the fourth straight game and eighth time in the last nine games. She also added two assists and a steal. Fields, finished just one point shy of her career-high while adding two steals. Deree Fooks was the third Tiger in double figures with 11 points. Sheree Ledbetter tied Fields for the team lead on the boards with five.

Kristen Hanzer led all scorers with 20 points while Blackwell added 15 points and six boards. Andrews contributed 13 points and nine assists while White finished with 13 points and nine rebounds.

Towson closes out its home schedule on Sunday, February 27 when it hosts Drexel at 2 p.m. The Tigers will honor their five seniors prior to the start of that game.
