Strong Pitching Gives Tigers a Pair of Wins

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Dominique Ortega and Katie Lingmai combined to allow just one unearned run in 14 innings on Sunday to give the Tigers a pair of victories. Towson (6-4) defeated Lehigh 4-1 in its first contest before posting a 2-0 win over Campbell.

"Overall I'm pretty happy with the all around performance today," said Coach Lisa Costello. "Dominique and Katie pitched extremely well today, we took advantage of mistakes by the other teams and we got things done with two outs."

Against Lehigh, the Tigers wasted little time in getting to work as Rachel Miller led off the bottom of the first with a single. After Lehigh got the first out, Sammi DiPompo drove a ball over the fence in left field to give Towson a 2-0 advantage.

Jennifer Colquhoun had an RBI groundout to plate an unearned run for Lehigh in the fifth.

Towson added to its lead in the sixth as Erika Stasch had an RBI single and scored on Haley Stueckler's double.

Ortega picked up her first win of the year after giving up just one unearned run on five hits in seven innings. Kelsey Lee took the loss for Lehigh after giving up four runs on six hits.

Miller led the Tigers with two hits, two stolen bases and a run scored. DiPompo had one hit, one run scored and two RBIs while Stasch had a hit, a run scored and an RBI. Liz Lucas led Lehigh with three hits in the game.

In the game against Campbell, Towson dented the scoreboard for a pair of runs in the top of the third inning. With two outs in the frame, Miller reached on an error by Campbell. Andrea Stevenson then ripped a triple to right center to score Miller. Stevenson scored when Courtney Wittner reached on an error, the third of the inning for Campbell.

That was all Lingmai would need as she held Campbell to just three hits in seven innings of work. She added six strikeouts for her fourth win of the year. Katie Woodcock took the loss for Campbell after allowing two unearned runs on two hits.

Stevenson had a hit, a run scored and an RBI for the Tigers. DiPompo had the other hit for the Tigers while Miller scored the run.

The Tigers return to action the weekend of March 4-6 when they travel to South Carolina to take part in the Coastal Carolina Tournament.
