Tigers Fall in a Pair of Games

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Tigers fell in a pair of contests on Saturday at the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational. Towson fell to Wright State by a 4-3 score in the opener. The Tigers (8-12) then fell to Charlotte by an 8-0 score in six innings.

Towson took an early lead against Wright State as the Tigers scored three times in the top of the second. Towson loaded the bases with no outs for Haley Stueckler. Stueckler singled to plate Mickelle Oslin before Rachel Miller had a single that scored two.

Wright State tied the game in the bottom of the third as Kacie Rapshus drilled a three-run home run.

Justine Shilt led off the fifth inning with a solo home run to give Wright State the 4-3 advantage.

Krystian DeWitt earned the win in the circle for Wright State. She allowed three runs on six hits while striking out seven. Paige Martin was one of three pitchers to work for the Tigers and she took the loss after surrendering Shilt's home run in her one inning of work.

Miller led the Tigers with a hit and two RBIs while Stueckler had a hit, a run scored and an RBI. Shilt finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI to lead Wright State.

Charlotte took an early lead on the Tigers with a run in the top of the first. Jalisa Rock reached on a fielder's choice and stole second. A wild pitch moved her to third base and an error by the Tigers allowed her to score.

The 49ers added to their lead in the third as Kalie Lang's single plated a run. Charlotte added to its lead in the fourth as Rock drove in a pair of runs and Briana Gwaltney doubles in two more.

Trailing 6-0, the Tigers had a chance in the bottom of the fourth as Andrea Stevenson doubled leading off the frame but got stranded at third.

Charlotte added a single run in the fifth and one in the sixth for a final margin of 8-0.

Katie Watkins earned the win in the circle after giving up one hit in six innings and striking out eight. Dominique Ortega took the loss for the Tigers after giving up two runs on four hits in three innings.

Rock and Gwaltney both had two hits and drove in three runs apiece to lead Charlotte.

The Tigers wrap up their South Carolina trip when they face Cleveland State on Sunday, March 13 at 9 a.m.
