When you win four events at a track meet you're bound to get noticed and that's exactly what happened to Tiger senior Ashley Adams who has been named the Colonial Athletic Association's Female Field Athlete of the Week after her performance at last weekend's Towson Invitational.
The senior from Plainfield, N.J., won every event she entered, picking up four first places. She captured the long jump with a leap of 18'4.25". She set a new TU Invitational record in the 100 hurdles with a clocking of 13.99 seconds to remain unbeaten in both hurdle events for the 2010-11 regular indoor and outdoor season.
Putting her speed on display she won the 100 meter dash in 12.47 seconds and also ran the opening leg on the Tigers' winning 4x100 meter relay that clocked a 48.82.
The CAA honor is the second in as many weeks for Adams who was selected Co-Female Track Athlete of the Week for winning both the 100 meter highs (13.05) and 400 intermediates (1:00.05) at the Coastal Carolina Invitational in Towson's first spring outing. Both times were ECAC qualifying times.
She also anchored Towson's 4x200 relay team at the CCI that broke a 29-year-old program record with a time of 1:42.35, erasing the old mark of 1:45.50 that was set back in 1982. Then she ran the first leg of the Tigers 4x100 shuttle hurdle relay that clocked a school record 58.18 in that event.
Adams and the Tigers are back on the track this Saturday when they compete in the Penn Invitational at Franklin Field.
