TOWSON, Md. - Zach Lefever has been named the new distance assistant coach for the Towson University track & field and cross country teams, announced by head coach Consandria Walker-Hall on Thursday.
"I'm excited to add Coach Lefever to our staff as we continue to grow our cross country and distance programs," said Walker-Hall. "Coming off a successful season, I look forward to building on that momentum and continuing the growth and development of our program. Coach Lefever's experience and leadership will be a tremendous asset to our student-athletes and our coaching staff."
Lefever joins Towson following two seasons as an assistant coach at La Salle University. In his most recent stint, he played a key role in the development and recruitment of seven NCAA qualifiers, 17 all-conference performers and five school record holders.
"I am honored to have the opportunity to coach the women's distance program here at Towson University," said Lefever. "We have a young group of ladies eager to get to work and surprise the CAA on the cross country course this fall. The commitment of Coach Walker-Hall to elevate the distance program is exciting. I look forward to the opportunity to contribute to an already incredibly successful program."
Before joining La Salle, Lefever made stops at Binghamton University, Westfield State University, and the University of Massachusetts over a three-year period. At Binghamton, he coached America East champions in the women's DMR, 4x400m, steeplechase and the men's 5k events. Prior to Binghamton, Lefever served as the assistant cross country coach at Westfield State for the 2023 season, where he aided in leading the men's and women's teams to the MASCAC Championship title. Before that, Lefever worked as an assistant coach at the University of Massachusetts. During his time there, he coached the 2022 men's cross country and 2022-23 women's indoor track & field teams – both won NEICAAA Championship titles.
Lefever was a four-year cross country and track & field athlete at the University of Pittsburgh. As a Panther, he earned All-Mid Atlantic Regional Cross Country honors in the 2019 season, was a two-time outdoor Division I national qualifier in the steeplechase and was a two-time indoor NEICAAA Champion. He additionally won four conference medals in track & field, including individual wins in the steeplechase and the indoor 3k.
An Ephrata, Pennsylvania native, Lefever earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pittsburgh in 2021, and a Master's of Architecture from the University of Massachusetts in 2023. Â
