Tigers Take Down Hoyas, 9-4

TOWSON, Md. -The Tigers built an early lead en route to a 9-4 victory over Georgetown on Tuesday afternoon. Towson (12-15) was led by Andrea Stevenson and Sammi DiPompo who were a combined 5-for-6 with three RBIs and three runs scored.

"I thought today was a solid win for us," said Coach Lisa Costello. "A win over a Big East team is always good and I thought we did things well on the base paths today."

The Tigers wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard as they loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the first. DiPompo came through with an RBI single while wild pitches allowed two runs to score.

Georgetown cut into the Tiger lead with a single run in the top of the fourth. The Tigers responded in the bottom half of the frame as Stevenson had a single to score Erika Stasch, who had reached on a walk. DiPompo then tripled to left field to score Stevenson.

The Hoyas made it a 4-2 game in the top of the fifth as Kristi Preuss doubled and scored.

Once again the Tiger offense responded as Rachel Miller's single up the middle plated two runners in the bottom of the fifth. Towson would tack on two more runs in the sixth inning. Lindsey Kent was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in a run while Kelli Lyons drew a two-out bases loaded walk to plate the other run.

Georgetown would score two runs in the top of the seventh to make it a 9-4 final. Alexandria Anttila had a sacrifice fly while Danielle Cyr scored on a fielder's choice.

Dominique Ortega allowed four runs, two of which were earned on eight hits in seven innings to earn the victory. Ortega struck out three and walked one. Georgetown used four pitchers on the afternoon as Mackensey Carter took the loss after giving up three runs in one inning.

DiPompo went 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs while Stevenson was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. Stasch was 0-for-2 at the plate but scored two runs and stole two bases. Miller finished 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Preuss led Georgetown as she was 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Shikara Lowe was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, March 30 when they face George Washington at 3 p.m.
