CONWAY, S.C. - The Tigers fell in a pair of games at the Coastal Carolina Tournament on Saturday. Towson (6-8) fell 3-1 to Delaware in the opening game of the day. Coastal Carolina posted a 3-0 win over the Tigers in their second game of the day.
Delaware took an early lead against the Tigers with a run in the second and third inning. Amanda Stacevicz hit a solo home run and Michelle Grap had an RBI base hit.
The Tigers got one of those runs back in the fourth as Sammi DiPompo led off with a walk and score on Haley Stueckler's one-out single.
Delaware would tack on one additional run in the fourth as Gina Knutson had a sacrifice fly.
Stacevicz earned the win in relief for Delaware after giving up just two hits in 3.2 innings. Katie Lingmai took the loss for the Tigers after giving up three runs on five hits in four innings. Paige Martin pitched the final two innings for the Tigers and did not allow a hit.
Stacevicz finished with two hits, a run scored and an RBI for Delaware. DiPompo had a hit and a run scored while Stueckler had a hit and an RBI for the Tigers.
In their second match-up of the weekend with Coastal Carolina, the Tigers found themselves down early. Coastal Carolina reached Tiger starter, Dominique Ortega for three runs in the bottom of the first. An error and a fielder's choice put two runners on with no outs. Jazmin Daigle then homered to center field to give the Chanticleers a 3-0 advantage.
Towson had a chance in the fifth as Jillian Donnelly and Andrea Stevenson had back-to-back singles. A Stef Polonia walk loaded the bases but the Chanticleers got a fielder's choice to end the inning.
Michelle Evans earned the win for Coastal Carolina after allowing just two hits in seven innings of work. Ortega took the loss after allowing three runs on eight hits.
Brooke Donovan and Daigle had two hits apiece to lead Coastal Carolina. Donovan scored a run while Daigle had all three of the RBIs and a run scored. Polonia reached base all three times she came to the plate via a walk.
The Tigers wrap up their time at the Coastal Carolina Tournament on Sunday when they face Western Carolina at 10 a.m.
