TOWSON, Md. - Senior Sammi DiPompo had four RBIs in game-one to break the career RBI mark as the Tigers swept a doubleheader from Seton Hall. Towson (8-8) posted a 7-0 win in game-one and earned a 2-1 victory in the second game.
"We hit the ball much better today," said Coach Lisa Costello. "It is nice to get a sweep of a Big East team and I'm proud of Sammi and her accomplishment."
The Tigers took an early lead in game-one as they got a run in the bottom of the first. Stef Polonia reached on a walk and was sacrificed to second. After she stole third, Sammi DiPompo singled to plate Polonia.
Towson added to its lead in the fourth as the Tigers loaded the bases with two outs. Rachel Miller was hit by a pitch to force in a run and DiPompo singled to drive in two more runs. DiPompo's RBIs gave her 117 for her career, which breaks Stef Streets' school record of 116.
"I'm extremely thrilled to that we managed to get the wins today," said DiPompo. "It is great to get the RBI mark but it's also a credit to my teammates who got on base and provided me with the opportunities to drive them in."
Courtney Wittner helped the Tigers add to their lead in the bottom of the fifth. Wittner led off the frame with her first career home run over the left field fence. Lindsey Kent would add an RBI double in the inning as well.
DiPompo would drive in the Tigers' final run of the game with a single after Miller led off the inning with a triple.
Katie Lingmai turned in another strong performance in the circle as she allowed just one hit in the complete game performance. Lingmai's shutout was her second of the season as she added a season-high eight strikeouts. Brooke Tull took the loss for Seton Hall after giving up seven runs on 12 hits.
DiPompo finished 3-for-4 in the game with a career-high four RBIs. Wittner and Andrea Stevenson each had two hits in the game while Miller had a pair of runs scored.
In game-two it was Seton Hall taking the early lead as Maria DeLuca led off the game with a home run to left field. Towson would get the equalizer in the bottom half as Miller led off with a walk and would score on a wild pitch with two outs.
The Tigers would score what proved to be the game-winner in the bottom of the third. Back-to-back singles leading off the inning put runners on first and second. After Seton Hall got the first out, Kent singled to score Stevenson.
The game was called in the bottom of the fifth due to darkness, giving the Tigers the win.
Dominique Ortega earned her second win of the season after giving up just one run on four hits with three strikeouts. Hannah Hill took the loss for Seton Hall after giving up two runs on five hits.
DiPompo finished 2-for-2 at the plate with a walk while Kent had a hit and a run scored. Marissa Muoio had two hits for Seton Hall.
The Tigers return to action this weekend at the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational. Towson will face Providence and Gardner-Webb on Friday to kick-off the tournament.
