WILMINGTON, N.C. - Allison Lanouette's solo home run proved to be all the scoring in the game as UNC Wilmington defeated the Tigers 1-0 on Sunday afternoon. Andrea Stevenson had a pair of hits for the Tigers (15-19, 4-5 CAA) in the loss.
Lanouette hit the first pitch she saw over the fence in center field with two outs in the bottom of the third.
Towson had a chance in the top of the fifth as the Tigers loaded the bases with two outs but were unable to get anyone home.
UNCW looked like it was threatening for more in the bottom of the sixth as it loaded the bases with no outs. Dominique Ortega was able to get three ground balls to get out of the inning without any damage.
Ortega and UNCW's Amanda Davenport combined to strand 16 runners on base during the course of the game.
Davenport earned the win in the circle as she allowed four hits in the shutout victory. She had four strikeouts and walked three. Ortega gave up the one run on eight hits for the Tigers. She did not walk a batter in the game.
Lanouette led the Sehawks with two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Stevenson had a pair of hits for the Tigers and has now reached base in 21 straight games.
Towson returns to action when it hosts George Washington in a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 12 at 3:00 p.m.
