Tigers Earn 7-0 Victory Over Drexel

TOWSON, Md. - Dominique Ortega threw her second straight shutout to lead the Tigers to a 7-0 victory over Drexel on Sunday afternoon. Andrea Stevenson went 4-for-4 with a grand slam to lead the Tigers (14-16, 3-3 CAA) offense in the game.

"I thought Dom pitched lights out for us for the second straight game," said Coach Lisa Costello. "I thought we made some adjustments at the plate seeing this pitcher for the second day and it's good to get back-to-back conference wins."

The Tigers went to work in the bottom of the first. With one out, Erika Stasch singled up the middle and advanced to third on Stevenson's double. Sammi DiPompo then reached on an error allowing Stasch to score. Towson is now 10-2 when the Tigers score in the first inning.

Towson added to its lead in the fourth as Jillian Donnelly led off with a walk. Stef Polonia entered the game as a pinch-runner and moved to third on a sacrifice and a wild pitch. Polonia would score on Rachel Miller's single through the left side.

The Tigers would put five runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-0 lead in the game. Miller had her second RBI single of the game and with two outs, Stevenson drove a pitch over the fence in right-center for a grand slam.

Ortega retired the Dragons in order in both the sixth and seventh innings to seal the victory.

The junior picked up her second straight shutout victory and improved to 5-7 for the Tigers this season. Ortega surrendered four hits and allowed just one runner to reach third base in the game and that was in the first inning. Ortega got a strong defensive performance behind her including some stellar plays from Bina Abbott at third base.

Hillary Allen took the loss for Drexel in the game. She allowed seven runs on nine hits in five innings of work. She walked five and struck out three.

Stevenson finished the game 4-for-4 with four RBIs, a run scored, a double and the home run. Miller was 2-for-4 out of the leadoff spot with two RBIs and a run scored.

The Tigers return to action on Thursday, April 7 when they travel to UMBC for a 2 p.m. game.
