TOWSON, Md. - On Tuesday morning, the Tigers staged their longest practice session of the Spring in Unitas Stadium.
As he gets ready for his third season as the Tigers' Coach, Rob Ambrose is excited about the development of his offensive line.
"In my first year, we had so many injuries on the offensive line," he recalled. "By mid-season, we were asking for volunteers from our defense to see if anyone wanted to switch. But, that group has developed a core consistency and we are building on that."
Offensive Line Coach John Donatelli has high hopes for his group of linemen.
"Our goal is to get better every day," says Donatelli, the longest-tenured coach on the Tiger staff. "We have a solid group of veterans and we have some potential leaders.
"We encourage all of our linemen to be leaders. Of course, some of our seniors have more experience and they are the ones who we will be relying on."
Seniors Henry Glackin (6-4, 280) and John Esposito (6-5, 300) are the Tigers' most experienced linemen. They were starters at right tackle and right guard respectively last season.
Sophomore Doug Shaw (6-1, 250) returns as the incumbent at center while sophomore Eric Pike (6-5, 280) started every game last season.
Sophomores Charles Johnson (6-2, 290) and Anthony Davis (6-3, 300) are also competing for spots on the offensive line, along with junior Colin Bass (6-6, 265). Additionally, the Tigers have high hopes for Drew Bellamy (6-5, 295), a "red shirt" freshman, and converted tight end Cory Kirby (6-6, 270),
The Tigers will hold their fourth spring practice on Thursday morning, April 7 in Unitas Stadium.
