Tigers Fall at UMBC, 6-3

BALTIMORE, Md. - Rachel Miller reached base in all four of her plate appearances but it was not enough as the Tigers fell at UMBC by a 6-3 score. UMBC snapped the Tigers' (14-17) two game win streak.

The Tigers wasted little time in getting on the board as Miller had a lead-off single in the first and stole second. A one-out single by Andrea Stevenson put two runners on for the Tigers. Sammi DiPompo reached on a UMBC error and one run scored. DiPompo would later score in the inning on Courtney Wittner's base knock.

UMBC got one of those runs back in the bottom of the second and used a pair of solo home runs to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth.

After Towson loaded the bases but was unable to get anyone home, the Retrievers tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to lead 6-2. Angela Yannone had a two-out single for UMBC that plated two runs while Jessica Warner had an RBI single as well.

Towson got a run back in the top of the sixth as Kelli Lyons had a two-out pinch hit double. Lyons would then score on Bina Abbott's base hit.

Stephanie Weigman earned the win in the circle for UMBC. She gave up two runs on five hits in four innings of work. Heather Brown got the save for the Retrievers after giving up one run on four hits in three innings. Katie Lingmai was the first of three Tiger pitchers to work and took the loss after giving up three runs on four hits in 3.1 innings of work.

Yannone was 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs and two runs scored to lead UMBC. Warner and Lauren O'Malley each had two hits and an RBI. Miller led the Tigers as she was 2-for-2 with a run scored and also reached on a walk and was hit by a pitch. Stevenson was the other Tiger with two hits while Wittner and Abbott had a hit and an RBI apiece.

The Tigers return to action this weekend when they visit UNC Wilmington for a three game series starting Saturday, April 9 at noon.
