TOWSON, Md. - Freshman Matt McKenney broke his own freshman record, and sophomore Matt Lowe won the 200-yard butterfly and the 1,000-yard freestyle to lead the Towson men's swimming and diving team to a close 154-134 over the Georgetown Hoyas Saturday at Burdick Pool.

McKenney swam a 21.20 in the 50-yard freestyle, winning the event breaking the Towson freshman record he set in his collegiate debut against William & Mary on Oct. 6. He also won the 100-freestyle in 47.72.

"He is a total believer," Towson head coach Pat Mead of the freshman said. "He has high goals and is mature beyond his years. The great thing about it is that he is still improving."

For Lowe, he posted an impressive time of 9:32.47 in the 1,000-yard freestyle and a 1:56.91 in the 200-yard butterfly, while also finishing in fourth place in the 200-yard backstroke.

The 200-yard freestyle was also a big event for the Tigers, as they took home the top three finishers. Senior Zack Stone won the event in 1:43.34, while freshman Sawyer Martin finished second and sophomore Matt Collingwood third.

Collingwood then came back in the 500-yard freestyle, reclaiming the lead in the final 50 yards and winning the event in 4:40.74.

The Tigers will next face a trio of opponents at George Mason on Nov. 2-3. The team will swim the Patriots, Northeastern and Old Dominion.
