Five Questions With Roger Erricker

Question 1: What is the biggest difference between the Colonial Athletic Association this year than in years prior for your team?

I would say our (lack of) experience. In past years, we've always have a lot of senior leadership. We had a graduate student and four seniors last year. This year, we only have one senior (Hannah McKenzie). We weren't counting on a small group last year.

Question 2: Would you say your team's experience is the biggest obstacle your team has overcome this season?

I think with such a young team, you want to see improvement. Part of that is the development of your returning runners. I think getting some of the younger girls to step up and go to the next level was an obstacle.

Question 3: Is your team's confidence at a high level?

I think we are confident. We're not over-confident, but we are confident in our ability.

Question 4: Having already run the course at William & Mary earlier this season, does that provide an advantage for your team Saturday?

I don't think it's a huge advantage, but because we are so young it definitely helped us out. Our girls know that they can improve on the course, and that's where it's most valuable for us.

Question 5: What has been the most enjoyable thing for you as a coach this season?

It may be a funny thing to say this, but I think for us, the expectations weren't high. We had to be realistic. Then, as a coach, there is not as much pressure because we are young and gaining experience. With the exception of Hannah, everybody is back next year. So we're not only building meet-by-meet this year, we are building for next year, too.
