BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Courtney Wittner drew a two-out walk with the bases loaded and broke a 2-2 tie with the Ohio Bobcats in the sixth inning, giving the Tigers (1-3) a 3-2 victory in the final game of the Hampton Inn Invitational at Campbell University Saturday night.
Wittner, who was pinch-hitting for Haley Stueckler, capped a wild rally by the Tigers, who entered the sixth inning down 2-0 before sending all nine batters to the plate against Ohio's Kaylin Clarke.
Katie Lingmai (1-0) earned the victory for Towson, allowing just one earned run and three hits in seven innings. She struck out five batters.
Erika Stasch drove in the Tigers' first run with an RBI double, plating Stef Polonia after Polonia singled to lead off the inning.
"Getting the lead-off batter on base was key," Towson Head Coach Lisa Costello said. "That put the pressure on them. The difference in this game was the way we played defensively."
The Tigers fell to the Campbell Camels 5-3 in the team's first game of the day behind a solid outing from junior pitcher Brittany Arnn. She scattered eight hits and walked just two batters, while catcher Taylor McGee had a double and a pair of RBI's for the Camels.
Brianna Jones and Polonia each had two hits for the Tigers against Campbell.
