Boston College Defeats Tigers, 6-1

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Boston College defeated the Tigers, 6-1 on Saturday morning as part of the 49er Invitational. Junior third baseman Bina Abbott scored the lone run in the game for the Tigers (2-5).

The Eagles (7-1) used a sacrifice fly in the first and an RBI groundout in the second inning to take an early 2-0 lead on the Tigers.

Towson got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third as Abbott led off the frame with a walk. She was then sacrificed to second by senior center fielder Erika Stasch and sacrificed to third by junior left fielder Kelli Lyons. Boston College was then charged with a passed ball which allowed Abbott to score from third.

Andrea Filler had an RBI single in the fifth to help the Eagles extend their lead to 3-1. Boston College would then score three times in the bottom of the sixth to provide the final margin of victory in the game, at 6-1. Nicole D'Argento and Chelsea LoBue had RBI singles in the sixth while a Tiger error allowed the third run to score.

Amanda Horowitz got the win in the circle for the Eagles as she allowed one run on three hits in the first four innings of work. D'Argento then moved from first base to the circle and allowed just one hit in the final three innings of work. Senior pitcher Dominique Ortega took the loss for the Tigers in the circle after surrendering six runs on 10 hits in five plus innings of work. Fellow senior Katie Lingmai got the final three outs in the sixth.

The Tigers had four different players record a hit in the game, as Abbott was one of the four and scored the run. D'Argento led the Eagles at the plate as she had three hits, two runs scored and an RBI.

The Tigers will be back in action as part of the 49er Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The teams will be seeded based on record following the conclusion of the Charlotte/Morgan State game which began at noon. Towson will play at either 2 or 4 p.m. against either Charlotte, Morgan State or Boston College depending on the seeding.
