Tigers Face Bridgeport On Friday Night

TOWSON, Md. – In a matchup of the top two teams in the ECAC, the Towson University gymnastics team will visit the University of Bridgeport in a dual meet at Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium on Friday, February 3 at 7:00 p.m.

The Tigers, who are 6-2 on the season, have a 191.392 scoring average after three meets. The Purple Knights, who have a 191.631 average, are ranked first in the ECAC.

Senior Lindsay Poplaski has been the Tigers' most consistent gymnast this season. She tops the ECAC with a 38.425 average in the all-around competition. Poplaski also ranks third in the ECAC with a 9.73 in the vault.

Poplaski is one of three Tigers who rank among the top vaulters in the ECAC. While she has a 9.73 average on vault, senior Avis Hixon is fourth with a 9.71 average. In addition, junior Britney Russell has a 9.708 average.

As a team, the Tigers are averaging 48.458 on vault, the top mark in the ECAC.

With a 48.008 average on the uneven bars, the Tigers lead the ECAC in bars in team score. Senior Kacy Catanzaro, who has a 37.958 all-around average, is the top performer in the ECAC with a 9.77 average on bars.

Russell and Hixon are the top two ECAC gymnasts on the floor exercise. Russell leads the ECAC with a 9.813 average while Hixon, the ECAC Specialist of the Year in 2011, ranks second with a 9.775 average.

For the meet at Bridgeport, the Tigers could be very short-handed. Senior Kady Sullivan  and sophomore Alexa Davis have already missed the Tigers' first three meets with injuries. Sullivan broke her wrist a week before the season started while Davis, the ECAC Rookie of the Year in 2011, has been sidelined due to off-season elbow surgery.

At Bridgeport, the Tigers could be competing without Russell, who has been bothered by back problems. One of the Tigers' top performers on vault, beam and floor, she vaulted at West Virginia last week and did not compete on beam and floor.

She may not be able to compete in the meet at Bridgeport.

After the Tigers' meet at Bridgeport, Coach Vicki Chliszczyk and the Tigers return to action on Sunday, February 12 when they visit Ursinus College for a 1:00 p.m. meet.
