TOWSON, Md. – Junior pitcher Katie Lingmai threw her fourth shutout of the season Saturday to lead the Tigers (14-13, 1-0 CAA) to their first Colonial Athletic Association win of the season Saturday, a 1-0 victory over Delaware (4-24-1, 0-1 CAA).

An extended rain delay did not seem to bother Lingmai, who pitched well as the game resumed and was sharp in the circle. Lingmai struck out five batters in the first three innings before the delay and allowed only two hits for the rest of the game to complete the shutout. She finished with seven innings pitched, three hits allowed, struck out 10 and did not issue a walk.

“She threw really well. (Assistant Coach) Laura Streets called a good game and I think that was a big part of it, too,” Towson Head Coach Lisa Costello said. “We kept Delaware off balance and Katie did a good job.”

Towson scored the only run of the game in the fifth inning against Delaware's Chenxi Jiao on a single from freshman shortstop Hailey Balk. Senior second baseman Haley Stueckler led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on the throw from the outfield. Stueckler advanced to third when Kelli Lyons hit a sacrifice fly, then scored when Balk singled to right field.

The two hits in the fifth were all Jiao would yield in the game. Though she walked six batters, Jiao allowed just the one run and struck out 11 batters while throwing six innings for the Blue Hens.

Saturday had originally been planned for a doubleheader between the two schools, but the inclement weather forced the teams to play just one game. A doubleheader has been scheduled for Sunday beginning at 11 a.m.
