TOWSON, Md. –
Centerfielder Erika Stasch hit a
sixth-inning home run and pitcher Dominique Ortega allowed just eight base-runners, helping the Tigers to a 2-0 shutout
over the Fairfield Stags Sunday in blustery conditions at the Towson Softball
Complex. Towson improved to 6-6 this season with the win and has now won four
straight games.
“Dominique threw well today,” Towson Head Coach Lisa Costello said. “She throws ahead in counts, she keeps batters off balance and
that's what she did today.”
Towson scored its first run in the second inning against
Fairfield starting pitcher Rae Ball. After Jillian Donnelly walked and Stasch hit
a double, freshman Macie McGeehan singled home Donnelly on a base hit up the
middle, putting Towson in front 1-0.
From there, Ortega would do the rest. The senior allowed just
six hits and two walks en route to improving to 3-3 this season. Ball led
Fairfield with two hits.
Stasch, a senior who hit .319 last season, belted an
insurance home run into centerfield in the sixth inning to give Towson a 2-0
lead and end the scoring.
Ball dropped to 2-2 in the loss for Fairfield, allowing four
hits and two runs over six innings. She also walked six batters.
The Tigers travel to George Washington Wednesday for a game
with the Colonials beginning at 3 p.m.
