HARRISONBURG, Va. – Towson University (25-29, 8-12 CAA) was defeated by James Madison University in both games of a doubleheader Friday by scores of 1-0 and 7-2.

Sarah Mooney got the Dukes on the board to start the scoring in game one, giving James Madison a 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the top of first inning. Her eighth homer of the season into left centerfield was one of only two hits allowed in the first four innings by Tiger starting pitcher Katie Lingmai.

Lingmai would retire nine of the next ten batters she faced and struck out seven batters during her first four innings of work.

In the fifth, JMU threatened again when shortstop Lindsey Tomasz doubled to left field with two outs. But after Anna Klumpp was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second base, Lingmai got Morgan Heath to pop out in foul ground to Towson third baseman Delanie Dunham to end the inning.

The Tigers responded in the sixth when senior second baseman Haley Stueckler doubled to centerfield with one out. Towson added another base-runner when classmate Erika Stasch walked, but Dukes pitcher Heather Kiefer escaped the jam by forcing Brianna Jones to ground out to shortstop.

Kiefer, a freshman, kept Towson off balance in her complete game shutout. She struck out 10 in seven innings while giving up just three hits.

Lingmai gave up just one run on four hits in six innings for the Tigers. She struck out eight and walk none.

In game two, Haley Johnson hit a three-run home run in the first inning to give the Dukes an early 3-0 advantage.

Trailing 4-0 entering the third inning, the Tigers got a run when freshman Hailey Balk doubled in Andrea Stevenson, who walked to lead off the inning. Balk would later score in the inning on a sacrifice fly by Jones, making the score 4-2 James Madison.

That was as close as the Tigers would get, as the Dukes scored three more times for the final margin of victory.

The Tigers can clinch the fourth and final spot in the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament with a win in the regular season finale against the Dukes Saturday beginning at 3 p.m.
