TOWSON, Md. - Whenever senior linebacker Danzel White has been on the field for the Tigers, he has been an impact player. He is a player who everyone notices as he runs from sidelline to sideline, making plays.
Last year, he played in nine games of the Tigers' 12 games and started each of them. White, who missed three games with injuries, still managed to make 77 tackles, second on the team. He also had one sack, forced a fumble and recovered two fumbles.
However, the fact that he missed three games probably cost him a chance at making the All-Colonial Athletic Association team.
The Manassas, Va. native led the Tigers in tackles as a freshman when he had 105 tackles in 10 games. But, he missed the season finale at James Madison with an injury.
One of the co-captains of the Turnaround Tigers, White had a terrific performance in the Tigers' Homecoming win over Colgate, making a team high 10 tackles. When the Tigers faced Maryland in College Park, Danzel came up with a season high 15 tackles against the Terrapins.
He contributed eight tackles to a win over Richmond and recovered a fumble. However, he suffered an injury that sidelined him for the next two games, wins at Old Dominion and William and Mary.
He returned to action when the Tigers hosted Delaware and made 11 tackles.
In one of the Tigers' biggest games of the season, he led Towson to a 40-30 victory at Maine. In the win over the seventh-ranked Black Bears, White made 12 tackles and had a sack. He also made one of the biggest plays of the game in the second quarter when he recovered a Maine fumble at the Black Bears' 10-yard line. His play set up a Tiger touchdown that gave the Tigers a 14-7 lead they never relinquished.
The following week, he had 10 tackles in the Tigers' 56-42 win over New Hampshire.
White is one of nine returning starters on the Tigers' defensive unit.
