| @Towson_WSOC Falls to W&M 5-0

TOWSON, Md. - Despite a career-high 12 saves from sophomore goalkeeper Erin Quinn, the Towson University women's soccer team (1-10-1, 1-3 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA)) fell, 5-0, to William & Mary (9-3, 3-0 CAA) Sunday afternoon at the Tiger Soccer Complex.

"I thought it was a pretty even first half," said head coach Greg Paynter. "But William & Mary put significant pressure on us. They made it hard to win balls and create the space we needed to make plays. "

Both teams fought for possession all over the midfield throughout the first half. William & Mary got on the board first when Cortlyn Bristol slid her shot past a diving Quinn at 7:04 in the first half. Towson had a good chance to equalize at 10:00 when sophomore Katlyn Axenfeld's one-timer sailed just wide right. Mallory Schaffer gave W&M a two-goal advantage in the 18th minute when Bristol headed a ball to Dani Rutter who served up Schaeffer. Towson again had a chance to score when senior Cheyenne Skidmore's hard shot went wide left at 21:34.

"I thought Erin Quinn played really well today," said Paynter. "But when a team takes 20 or 25 shots...that's too many in a college game. She can't make every save."

Quinn had exactly half of her saves in the second period as the Tribe ramped up its pressure and scored three goals for the final margin. Samantha Cordum took the ball in alone at 58:40, Audrey Barry scored off a Lauren Guogh assist at 81:49 and Jackie Blake-Hedges received a free kick from Kiersten Harpe and scored at 87:16.

The Tigers return to action on Sunday, Oct. 7 when they host James Madison at 1 p.m.
