Tigers Get First Two Dual Meet Victories of Season

TOWSON, Md. - Competing in its first home meet of the season, the Towson University men's swimming and diving team earned a pair of victories over Hood College (final score of 231-49) and Howard University (234-36) Saturday at Burdick Pool.

The Tigers (2-0) started off strong, winning each of the meet's first seven events. Freshman Brandon Ress won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:34.87. Sophomore Mike Johnson finished second in the event with a time of 9:42.88. Noah Pritchard was third for Towson.

Freshman Nick Breschi was strong in a pair of events, winning the 100-yard backstroke in 52.58 and swimming a leg in Towson's winning 200-yard medley relay. Billy Pappas, Zach Brech and Matt Collingwood teamed up for a time 1:37.43 to win the event by over 3.5 seconds.  

Freshman Tim Schade won the 200-yard backstroke in 1:56.14, with Breschi right behind him in 1:56.21.

In the 200-yard butterfly, junior Matt Lowe, Zach Brech and Grant Skinner finished first, second and third, respectively for Towson. Lowe's winning time was 1:53.81. He was the only finisher with a time under two minutes.

Two additional freshmen, Ryan Paisley and Matt Brinton, were outstanding in the 50-yard freestyle for the Tigers. Paisley won the event in 22:01, with Brinton not far behind timing 22.18.

Paisley also won the 100-yard freestyle in 47.72.

Towson next faces William & Mary and Georgetown in Washington, D.C,. next Saturday. The meet will begin at 1 p.m.
