McGeehan, Hickman Lift @Towson_SB Past Columbia 3-0

TOWSON, Md. - Sophomore Macie McGeehan's two-out, two-run single in the sixth inning broke a scoreless tie and helped Towson to its second win in two days, as the Tigers defeated Columbia 3-0 on Sunday in the final game of the Towson Invitational tournament.

With two outs and runners on second and third, McGeehan ripped a base hit to centerfield, scoring Hailey Balk and Bina Abbott to give the Tigers (8-9-1) a 2-0 lead. Jillian Donnelly then doubled home pinch-runner Maureen Hepner later in the inning to give freshman pitcher Ambar Hickman a 3-0 lead.

Hickman earned her second win in two days for the Tigers by firing her second shutout of the season for Towson. Against the Lions, Hickman improved to 3-1  by giving up just two hits and striking out five batters. She did not allow a hit until the fifth inning and lowered her earned run average to a team-best 3.95 this season.

It was a terrific weekend for the freshman, as she also threw four innings of one-run ball Saturday against Iona. For the tournament, Hickman threw 11 total innings and allowed just one run and four hits while posting a 2-0 record.

Donnelly led the Tiger offense with two of their five team hits, doubling twice and driving in a run for Towson. She is now hitting .324, second highest on the team this season behind Delanie Dunham's .327.

Prior to the game, Towson Director of Athletics Mike Waddell presented Towson head coach Lisa Costello with a special plate honoring the longtime Tiger coach after she earned her 500th career victory earlier this season.

Towson returns to the Tiger Softball Complex Wednesday for a game against George Washington at 2 p.m.
