NEWARK, Del. - Macie McGeehan had two runs batted in, and Delanie Dunham added two hits, a run batted in and a run scored, but the Delaware Blue Hens (25-6, 6-0 CAA) defeated the Tigers 5-3 in the final game of a Colonial Athletic Association series on Sunday.
Towson (15-21-1, 0-6 CAA) collected eight hits in the game, highlighted by a big fifth inning which saw the Tigers score all of their runs. Courtney Johnson led of the inning with a walk and advanced to second base after Kelli Lyons hit a sacrifice bunt. After Olivia Yarbrough singled to put runners on the corners, Dunham came up and singled home Johnson to make the score 2-1 in favor of Delaware. After Dunham stole second base, McGeehan then doubled to right centerfield, scoring Dunham and Yarbrough. The two-run scoring hit gave the Tigers a 3-2 lead.
However, in the bottom of the frame, Delaware added two runs on a single by Tori Conrad to reclaim the lead at 4-3.
The Blue Hens tacked on an insurance run in the sixth, and relief pitcher Chenxi Jiao finished the seventh inning off after allowing singles to Hailey Balk and Dunham. Balk finished 2-for-4 at the plate and has a team-high .323 batting average.
Towson returns home to face George Washington on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
