TOWSON, Md. - Olivia Yarbrough's single with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning broke a 1-1 tie and gave the Tigers (23-23-1, 5-7 CAA) their sixth straight win, a 2-1 victory over Delaware State (15-25, 7-2 MEAC) on Wednesday afternoon at the Tiger Softball Complex.
Yarbrough singled through the right side of the Hornet infield, bringing home Hailey Balk from second base. Balk doubled to centerfield earlier in the inning.
A freshman, Yarbrough has a batting average of .389 during the win streak to lead the team. Since March 30, Yarbrough is batting .371 (13-for-35) with eight runs and two stolen bases. She finished Wednesday 1-for-3.
Towson pitcher Katie Lingmai improved to 13-12 this season, throwing a complete game and winning her seventh consecutive decision. She gave up six hits and the lone Delaware State run in the fourth inning.
During her last seven starts (all victories), Lingmai has pitched 51 innings and given up just 27 hits. She has 49 strikeouts and only 15 walks over that time with an earned run average of 0.96.
Delaware State did out-hit the Tigers, though, 6-5. Nicole Gazzolla led the way, going 3-for-4 at the plate.
The Tigers have now completed non-conference play. They next travel to Colonial Athletic Association rival UNC Wilmington for a three-game series beginning Saturday at 12 p.m.
