TOWSON, Md. - The Towson University softball team extended its winning streak to 12 games on Sunday, following a 2-1 Colonial Athletic Association victory over George Mason (15-37, 3-15 CAA) on Senior Day at the Tiger Softball Complex. With the win, the Tigers matched their longest winning streak since 1987. It is the longest win streak under Lisa Costello, who is in her 18th season as head coach.
The Tigers (29-23-1, 11-7 CAA) received a good performance from senior pitcher Katie Lingmai in the circle, as she pitched repeatedly out of trouble and yielded just a single run in the fifth inning when Casey Price singled. Lingmai struck out three batters and walked two while allowing eight hits. She earned her 17th win of the season, tying a career-high she set as a sophomore.
George Mason left 13 runners on base in the game.
Offensively, the Tigers were only able to collect four hits against Patriots starting pitcher Anna Blessing, but came up with key hits in crucial situations to score runs in support of Lingmai.
The biggest hit for the Tigers came from outfielder Maureen Hepner in the second inning, when she hit a two-run single to centerfield that scored Bina Abbott and Macie McGeehan and gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
Hepner, McGeehan, Jillian Donnelly and Delanie Dunham all had hits for Towson in the win.
Prior to the game, the Tigers honored seniors Donnelly, Lingmai, Abbott, Kelli Lyons, Stevie Patnode and Erin Wolfe as the group played in their final home game.
The Tigers will conclude the regular season with a three-game series at Hofstra next weekend.
