HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The Towson University softball team had its school record-tying 12 game winning streak snapped on Friday afternoon, as the team dropped a doubleheader to Hofstra by scores of 8-0 and 9-0.
The Tigers (29-25-1, 11-9 CAA) were dropped by the powerful Pride as Hofstra (39-11, 17-2 CAA) was led by the strong performances of All-CAA pitcher Olivia Galati, who threw her fourth career perfect game in the game one shutout of the Tigers. The game ended in the fifth inning due to the run rule.
Galati was supported in game one by Jess Hirschbuhl, Tessa Ziemba and Caryn Bailey, who each had two runs batted in as part of the victory. Hirschbuhl's seventh home run of the season in the fifth inning off of Towson starting pitcher Katie Lingmai secured the win in game one.
In game two, the Tiger bats came to life as both Olivia Yarbrough and Delanie Dunham got hits off of Galati, who also started the second game.
Yarbrough hit a double in the first inning and Dunham hit a single up the middle in the fourth inning.
However, Hofstra's offense heated up yet again. This time, the Pride collected nine hits, including three from Ziemba. The senior and Erin Trippi both had three RBI's in the win for the Pride, who moved into first place in the CAA standings with a 17-2 conference record.
The teams will wrap up the series Saturday at 12 p.m.
