HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The Towson University softball team completed the regular season at Hofstra on Saturday, falling 1-0 in nine innings on the road to the powerful Pride. Hofstra (40-11, 18-2 CAA) won the game in the bottom of the ninth inning when Tori Rocha singled to centerfield, scoring Chloe Fitzgerald and ending the game.
A day after allowing 17 total runs in two losses, the Tiger pitching staff received a much improved effort from senior starting pitcher Katie Lingmai. She threw all 8.2 innings for Towson and gave up just the final run. She gave up just six hits and struck out six while walking four. This season, Lingmai has struck out 192 batters in 201.2 innings of work.
Hofstra starter Olivia Galati also threw well in earning the shutout, but appeared more vulnerable than in her two wins on Friday against the Tigers. Saturday, Galati gave up seven hits, including two each from Jillian Donnelly and Hailey Balk.
Towson (29-26-1, 11-10 CAA) has earned a spot in the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament, which will be hosted by the top seeded Pride beginning on Wednesday. James Madison earned the second seed, Delaware will be third and the Tigers will be the tournament's fourth and final seed.
On the tournament's opening day, Towson will face Hofstra at 2 p.m. and James Madison will take on Delaware at 5 p.m. The tournament is a double elimination format.
