Individual StandingsNEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Towson men's golf team completed the rain-shortened MacDonald Cup on Sunday afternoon, finishing in 11th-place.
The Tigers carded a 603 (303-300) to finish in 11th-place. Host Yale won the event by narrowly edging Harvard, 569-570. Princeton's Eric Mitchell took home medalist honors after firing a 2-under 138 (70-68).
Junior Alex Church was Towson's top finisher, finishing tied for 31st in the 72-player field with a 149 (70-79). His opening round 70 was a career best round. Senior Sam Stewart shot identical rounds of 75 to finish tied for 36th.
After tough opening rounds, Jimmy Grem (79-74=153), Juan Veloza (79-75=154) and Ryan Siegler (83-76=158) each improved during Sunday's final round.
"This tournament proved to be a step backwards for us," said Towson Head Coach Brian Yaniger. "Each of the prior three events had shown progress toward our end goal. We are fortunate that we now have two weeks to work on our putting and short games before we go to Lehigh. While Alex Church had a great even par round in torrential conditions on a very hard golf course, we need more than one good round from one player to reach our goals."
Towson will wrap up its fall schedule on October 18 at the Lehigh Invitational at Saucon Valley.
