OPENING TIP: It's a busy stretch for the Tiger women's basketball team as it play three games in six days starting Tuesday night. Towson makes the quick trip to Annapolis to take on Navy at 7 p.m.
SERIES HISTORY: Tuesday's game will be the 21st all-time between the Tigers and Navy. The Tigers lead the series 12-8 and have won four of the last six meetings. The two squads met last year in the season opener as the Mids claimed a 56-55 victory despite a late run by the Tigers.
Tanisha McTiller led the Tigers with 21 points and 15 rebounds in that game while
Audrey Bauer had 18 points and four rebounds for Navy.
AGAINST IN-STATE OPPONENTS: The Tigers are playing their second game of four against a team from the state of Maryland Tuesday. Towson has already picked up a 59-54 win over UMBC this season. Last season, Towson went 3-3 against teams from Maryland. That included victories over UMBC, Loyola and Coppin State. In the last five plus years, Towson is 18-11 against in-state teams.
DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE: Redshirt senior forward
LaTorri Hines-Allen continues to post double-double performances for the Tigers. Hines-Allen had a career-high 29 points and 12 rebounds against La Salle to close out the LIU Turkey Classic. It was Hines-Allen's fourth double-double of the year and 15th as a Tiger. Hines-Allen leads the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) with four double-doubles entering play this week.
KEEP IT 60 BELOW: One of the keys for the Tigers to succeed has been the ability to keep an opponent under 60 points. The Tigers are 2-1 this season when they hold an opponent to under 60 points. That includes wins over Rider and UMBC and the loss to North Dakota. Towson is 8-4 under Head Coach
Niki Reid Geckeler when it holds an opponent to 59 points or less. The Tigers are 28-14 in the last five years when they hold an opponent under that total.
WELCOME TO THE BLOCK PARTY: Towson comes into play this week ranked third the CAA in blocked shots per game (4.0 per game). The Tigers had five blocks in the win at UMBC and have now blocked at least three shots in four of their six games this season. The Tigers blocked a season-high nine shots against Rider. It was the most blocks in a game since the Tigers blocked 10 against Hofstra during the 2012-13 season. Seven Tigers have blocked at least one shot so far this season. That group is led by redshirt senior forward
LaTorri Hines-Allen, who has nine. Hines-Allen is tied for third in the CAA with an average of 1.5 blocks per game. Senior guard
Ciara Webb and senior forward
Camille Alberson are tied for second on the team with four blocks each.
GOING DEEP: Towson junior guard
Dominique Johnson continues to cement her name firmly in the Tiger record book. Johnson drained three more three-pointers in the game against Rhode Island. At this point in her career, Johnson has made 101 career three-pointers, which is eighth in school history. Her 58 triples last season ranked fifth in single-season history at Towson. Johnson is the eighth player in program history to make at least 100 career three-pointers as a Tiger. The school record for career three-pointers made is 190 set by
Mia Chapman.
UP NEXT: It's a quick turnaround for the Tigers. Towson makes the trip up Charles Street to visit Loyola on Thursday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m.
