OPENING TIP: After more than a month away from home, the Tiger women's basketball team returns to SECU Arena on Sunday, Dec. 28 to host George Mason at 2 p.m. Towson will be playing its first home game since Nov. 22.
SERIES HISTORY: The Tigers resume their series with former Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) foe George Mason Sunday. Sunday's game will be the 28th meeting all-time between the Tigers and the Patriots. George Mason leads the series 17-10. The two teams have alternated wins in each of their last five meetings. Last year when the two teams met in Fairfax, the Patriots secured a 60-58 win as
Kyana Jacobs hit a pair of free throws with three seconds left. That negated double-doubles from
LaTorri Hines-Allen,
Tanisha McTiller and
Nyree Williams.
TIME TO PROTECT THIS HOUSE: The Tigers are back in SECU Arena for a game for the first time since Nov. 22 Sunday. Towson was on the road for over a month and played seven straight games away from home (2-5). It was one of the longest road trips in program history. The Tigers are currently 1-1 at home this year after splitting their two games in the Preseason WNIT consolation bracket.
TWENTY-TWENTY VISION: Redshirt senior forward
LaTorri Hines-Allen led the Tigers with 23 points in the game at Wake Forest. It was Hines-Allen's fifth 20+ point performance of the season and her 11th as a Tiger. She currently ranks second in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) for games with 20 or more points scored.
GOING DEEP: Towson sank eight three-pointers in the game at Wake Forest. It was the second most three-pointers by the Tigers in a game this season (season-high nine threes at Penn State). Five Tigers drained at least one triple in that game led by junior guard
Dominique Johnson who had three. In addition freshman guard
Markeema Crawford hit her first bucket as a Tiger and it was from behind the arc.
SECOND HALF SURGE: Towson showed off its abilities in the second half of the game at Wake Forest. The Tigers outscored the Demon Deacons 40-29 in the second stanza of that game. Redshirt senior
LaTorri Hines-Allen scored 15 of her 23 points in the second half while junior guard
Dominique Johnson had 13 of her 15. Towson shot 40.5% in the second half to Wake Forest's 35.5%. The Tigers also forced 11 second half turnovers from the Demon Deacons and recorded seven steals.
DISHING OUT THE HELPERS: Towson recorded a season-high 16 assists in the contest at Wake Forest. It was the most assists in a single-game by the Tigers since they recorded 16 in a win over Hofstra last year in February. Against Wake Forest seven of the 10 Tigers that appeared in the game recorded at least one assist. That group was led by freshman guard
Breonn Hughey who had five while junior guard
Dominique Johnson dished out four.
UP NEXT: The Tigers remain home to host George Washington in a New Year's Eve matinee on Wednesday, Dec. 31 at 1 p.m.
