HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison University jumped out to a 21-0 lead and posted an 82-40 win over the Towson University women's basketball team in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play on Sunday afternoon. Senior guard Tanisha McTiller had 19 points as the Tigers had a two-game win streak snapped.

“Tough game today, James Madison is a very good team,” said Towson coach Niki Reid Geckeler. “I'm happy that my kids kept playing hard till the very end.”

The Dukes (19-4, 9-0 CAA) opened the game on a 21-0 run. Kirby Burkholder had six points in the first seven plus minutes for James Madison. Towson (11-12, 5-5 CAA) got on the scoreboard at 12 minutes as McTiller hit one-of-two from the foul line. The Dukes continued to push the tempo as seven straight points from Toia Giggetts gave the home team a 35-5 lead with 5:49 to play in the first. The two teams traded baskets over the final five minutes of the half as freshman forward Alaysia Mitchell scored the final bucket of the half at 1:01. The Dukes took a 47-11 lead at the break.

James Madison shot 45.7% from the field in the first half to Towson's 15.4%. The Dukes led the rebounding battle 28-18 in the first 20 minutes of play.

Towson opened the second half by scoring five of the first seven points, which made it a 49-16 game with 18:14 to play. Redshirt junior forward LaTorri Hines-Allen had three of the Tigers' five during that stretch. The two teams battled throughout the second half but the Tigers were unable to overcome James Madison's 36 point halftime advantage and ultimately fell 82-40.

The Dukes shot 35.1% from the field in the second half and 40.3% for the game. James Madison went 17-for-22 from the foul line in the game. Towson shot 40% in the second half and 28.6% for the game. The Tigers outrebounded the Dukes 24-20 in the second half. James Madison finished the game with a 48-42 edge in the rebounding battle.

McTiller added five rebounds and two steals in addition to her team lead in points. Hines-Allen added 11 points, six rebounds and a block. Mitchell came off the bench to contribute four points and six rebounds. Junior guard Markell Smith tied Hines-Allen and Mitchell for the team lead in rebounds with six.

Giggetts led all scorers with a career-high 26 points and nine rebounds. Burkholder posted 16 points and 12 rebounds with four assists for the Dukes.

Towson is back in action on Thursday, Feb. 13 when the Tigers host Drexel at 7 p.m. in SECU Arena.
