TOWSON, Md. - Despite wins in singles play from Sophie Lesage and Lorena Ferrer, the Towson University women's tennis team was defeated 5-2 on Thursday evening by the Delaware Blue Hens at the Towson Center Tennis Courts.
"I thought Delaware played really hard, so credit to them," Towson Head Coach Doug Neagle said. "We battled, and I'm proud of our effort. We just didn't have enough."
Ferrer was the lone Tiger to win a match in straight sets, defeating Delaware's Carmen Lai 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. She is now 13-8 overall this season.
At No. 4 singles, Lesage improved her team-best record to 16-5 by defeating Nataliya Naumova in three sets 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.
The doubles pairing of Lesage and Nisha Shah also picked up a win at No. 2 singles over the Delaware duo of Olivia Heim and Kim Milla 9-8 (7-4).
However, Delaware secured the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots.
The Tigers host their final home match of the regular season on Sunday against Monmouth starting at noon.
