BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Towson University tennis team completed the first day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championship. Sophomore Gaia Montecchi secured two wins to advance to tomorrow, marking the first time two Tigers have earned spots in the event's main draw.
Montecchi opened qualifying with a straight-sets victory over Morgan State's Julia Jeffrey, taking the first set 6-4 before closing out the match 7-5 in the second.
In her second match, Montecchi battled through three sets against Georgetown's Katie Garofolo-Ro. After dropping the opening set 6-3, she responded with strong 6-2 and 6-4 wins to clinch a spot in the main draw.
