Towson Tennis Ends Season On A High Note With Win Over St. Joseph’s

TOWSON, Md.- The Towson University women's tennis team wrapped up the 2025-26 season with a 4-1 victory over St. Joseph's Tuesday afternoon at the Tiger Tennis Complex.
 
Jamie Peterson's squad was expected to end the season Wednesday versus Morgan State, but that match has been canceled earlier Tuesday.
 
The Tigers won four of the last six matches of the season to finish with a 10-10 record. Towson last finished with a .500 record in 2018-19.
 
Towson jumped out to a 1-0 advantage after wins on courts 1 and 2 in doubles. Aubrey Carper and Chloe Courtnage won for the fifth time in six matches – taking their set 6-3 at No. 2. The sophomore duo improved to 7-4 as a team this season. About a minute later, Kiersten Tambe and Chandrè Boshoff clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory on court 1. Towson's top duo was 10-6 in 2025-26.
 
Gaia Montecchi gave the home team a 2-0 lead with a dominating 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 2 singles flight. The sophomore finished the season with a 15-5 record, which including 14 straight set victories.

Ashira Murray matched Montecchi with her 15th win of the campaign. After dropping the opening set on court 4, the junior roared back to win the match – taking the second set 6-2 then the super breaker, 10-5. Murray was 5-0 in super breakers this season and 5-0 in tiebreakers.
 
After St. Joe's (4-16) won on court 1, Boshoff clinched the match with a straight set win at No. 3.
 
The other two matches were in super breakers with Courtnage two points away from winning at No. 5. Senior Sania Suchinsky had just evened her match on court 6 and took the first point of the super breaker.
 
"We ended the season with a nice win in a very competitive match," Towson head coach Peterson said. "We definitely made some improvements as a team this year. I have nine players returning next season and I am excited to take the next step."
