WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgetown University junior Megan Hyson hit a three-run homerun and allowed just one hit in five innings as the Hoyas (22-20) defeated the Towson Tigers (25-19, 4-5 CAA) by a 10-1 score in five innings on Thursday afternoon at Guy Mason Field.
Hyson's three-run shot in the top of the first inning gave the Hoyas an early 3-0 advantage and the home team never looked back, adding six runs in the third inning for added offensive support.
Hyson was masterful in the circle for Georgetown, not allowing a hit until Towson's Delanie Dunham clubbed a triple down the right field line to lead off the top of the fifth inning. Dunham would later come around to score on a sacrifice fly by Tiger freshman Holiday Cahill, but the game was ended after the top half of the inning due to the run rule.
Grace Applebe hit a two-run triple and Alex Anttila hit a two-run single as part of the six-run third inning outburst, as the Hoyas took a 9-0 advantage.
Anttila, Taylor Henry and Elyse Graziano all had two hits in the win for the Hoyas.
Towson returns home on Saturday for the start of a three-game series against UNCW. Saturday features a doubleheader beginning at noon. The teams will wrap up play on Sunday with a single game at 1 p.m. The weekend will serve as the final home games of the season for Towson.
