FINAL RESULTSKIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- The Towson men's golf team finished strong at The Invitational at The Ocean Course, carding its best round of the tournament as play wrapped up on Sunday afternoon.
For the first time in this tournament, three Tigers shot in the 70's on Sunday as Towson cut 10 strokes off its second round score. Despite Sunday's surge, the Tigers finished in 14th-place with a three day total of 950 (318-321-311).
"This course highlighted some of our weaknesses, but now we know what we need to spend our time working on at practice," said Head Coach
Brian Yaniger. "While the results were disheartening, we learned a great deal about what we need to do in order to achieve our goals."
South Florida outlasted the extremely talented field to win the tournament with a three-round score of 282-284-294—850 (-14), a new tournament record.
Chase Koepka from South Florida won individual medalist honors with a three-round score of 69-68-71—208 (-8).
Sophomore
John Hulede carded Towson's best individual round of the weekend at The Ocean Course as he fired an even-par 72 on Sunday. Hulede (82-82-72--236) finished tied with classmate
Juan Veloza (77-81-78--236) as Towson's top finishers. Junior
Ryan Siegler carded a 79 in the final round to finish with a 237 (77-81-79).
The Tigers are back in action on September 21 at the Rees Jones Invitational at Haig Point.
