FINAL RESULTSANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Towson men's golf team came up a bit short in its title defense, claiming fourth at the 2014 Navy Fall Classic, which concluded on Sunday.
The Tigers dropped one stroke off yesterday's score, finishing with a 581 (290-291). Towson did place two individuals in the Top 10 though as
John Hulede finished sixth and
Sam Stewart ended in a tie for seventh.
"We did not finish quite as well as we had hoped as a team, however there were several bright spots that we can build on," said Towson Head Coach
Brian Yaniger. "We had two players in the Top 10 with
John Hulede finishing sixth in his first travel team appearance and
Sam Stewart claiming seventh. The guys played a great first nine holes today to get back into position to compete for the title. Then we gave back a few on our second nine and that proved to be the difference. We are looking forward to competing next at The Ocean Course."
Seton Hall (569) edged out Delaware (570) by just one stroke to win the tournament crown. Georgetown (578), Towson (581) and Navy (583) rounded out the Top 5.
Georgetown's Cole Berman defeated Delaware's Erik Dulik in a playoff for individual medalist honors.
Sophomore
Juan Veloza bounced back with a 71 today, cutting seven strokes off his first round score.
Ryan Siegler cut a stroke off his Saturday score with a 75 and
Alex Church also played better during the second round with a 76.
The Tigers return to action on September 11 when they travel to Kiawah Island, South Carolina to compete in The Invitational at The Ocean Course.
