SERIES HISTORY: The Tigers renew their second-longest rivalry Friday as they welcome Delaware to SECU Arena. Towson and the Blue Hens will be meeting for the 66th time (only Drexel has played the Tigers more-67). The Blue Hens swept the season series last year and now have won eight straight against the Tigers. Towson's last win in the series came during the 2009-10 season at home.
LATE CHARGE: The Tigers trailed William & Mary, 49-34 with 6:20 to play in regulation on Tuesday night. Towson used a 17-4 run to cut the 15-point deficit to two, 53-51 with 1:55 to play. Junior guard
Dominique Johnson scored 13 of the Tigers' 17 during that run and assisted on one of the other baskets. Four straight points by William & Mary pushed the lead to six with 35 seconds to play. Senior guard
Ciara Webb hit a three with 27 seconds left to pull the Tigers to within three and then drained the game-tying three with seven seconds to play. The Tigers went on to control play in overtime, outscoring the Tribe 20-12 in the five minute session.
BANGING THE BOARDS: Towson won the rebounding battle against William & Mary, 47-42. Nine of the ten Tigers who appeared in the game recorded at least one rebound. That group was led by seniors
LaTorri Hines-Allen and
Markell Smith who had 10 each. The 47 boards matched the Tigers' season-high and it was the fourth time this season the team grabbed 40 or more rebounds in a game. Towson is 2-2 this season when it records 40 or more rebounds in a game.
TWENTY-TWENTY VISION: Towson had a pair of players score 20 or more points against William & Mary. Redshirt senior forward
LaTorri Hines-Allen had 21 points while junior guard
Dominique Johnson tallied 20 points. It is the first time since March 2 of last year that the Tigers had two player score 20 or more points in a game. For Hines-Allen it was her second straight game with 20 or more points and eighth of the season. Johnson tallied 20 or more points for the third time this season.
DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE: Redshirt senior forward
LaTorri Hines-Allen tallied her second straight double-double performance in the win over William & Mary. Hines-Allen had 21 points and 10 rebounds for her team and CAA leading seventh double-double of the year. The Tigers have the CAA leader in double-doubles on both the women's and the men's side of the ball (Hines-Allen - seven and
John Davis - six).
SUNNY AND SEVENTY: While the temperature has been dropping outside, the Tigers have been heating up on the court. Two times in the last four games, Towson has tallied 70 or more points in a game. The 77 points against William & Mary were a season-high and the most points scored by a Tiger squad since they had 77 against William & Mary during the 2011-12 season.
