The Series: DrexelTowson and Drexel are familiar foes, squaring off each season since 1997. The Tigers lead the all-time series at 10-6-2, but Towson is 3-5-1 against the Dragons in Philadelphia. The Tigers are 2-1-1 in their last four meetings against Drexel, including a 2-2 draw last season at Vidas Field. Towson is looking to pick up its first win on the road against the Dragons since a 2-1 victory on Oct. 1, 2004.
The Series: DelawareAnother long-standing foe on the Tigers slate, Towson and Delaware have clashed 22 times in the past. The Blue Hens lead the series 13-8-1, but the last three meetings have been decided by just one goal. Towson won last season's matchup 1-0 in Newark thanks to a
Katie Ponce goal. A win Sunday would give the Tigers their first back-to-back victories over the Blue Hens since winning two in a row in 2000 and 2001, prior to Towson's membership in the CAA.
Sharing the BacklineThis week, the Towson Sports Network featured
Vasthy Delgado and
Nicole Nicholas, a pair of defenders who have played together in nearly every game of their Tiger careers. But before donning the Black and Gold, the two were high school and club teammates. The video can be
seen here.
Two a Week From Here on OutFor the remainder of the 2015 season, the Tigers will play twice a week on Friday and Sunday as Towson hits the meat of the conference schedule. After a three-game road swing, the Tigers return home next week to host perennial powers Hofstra (Friday) and Northeastern (Sunday). Kickoffs are slated for 3 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
Stout as Stout Can BeThe Tiger defense has been solid all season long, not allowing more than two goals in any game. Only twice this season has an opponent scored multiple goals. The Tigers have allowed a CAA-low seven goals this season while also having the league's best goals against average of .602 during 1047 minutes of action. No team in the league has made more saves than Towson, which holds a team save percentage of .899, yet another CAA topper.
Give Her CreditEarly in the first half on two weeks ago, junior keeper
Taylor Sebolao was forced to leave after taking a knock on the head and suffering a bloody nose.
Emma Burnett played her first action at home in Sebolao's place. After returning to the game six minutes later, Sebolao finished the game. The NCAA Statistician's Manual states that a goalkeeper must play every minute to earn the shutout, but because Sebolao was forced to leave because of procedure, and promptly returned, the NCAA credited Sebolao with the full shutout, bringing her season total to five.
