Track and Field Adds Two To 2016-17 Class

TOWSON, Md. – Towson women's cross country and track and field head coach Mike Jackson has announced the signing of Jamila Brown and Ally Coghlan to National Letters of Intent. Brown will join the Tiger track and field program for the 2016-17 season while Coghlan will join both the cross country and track and field program.

Brown (Columbia, Md.) is a member of the track and field team at Wilde Lake High School. She was the runner-up in the 55-meter and 300-meter dashes at the 2015 Howard County Indoor Track & Field Ivan Walker Championships. Brown paced the Wildecats to a second-place finish at the Howard County Outdoor Championships. She won the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes and ran on the first-place 4x100-meter and 4x200-meter relay teams. Brown led the Wildecats to a fifth-place finish at the MPSSAA 3A State Championships. She was the runner-up in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, along with the 4x100-meter relay. Her personal best is 11.78 in the 100-meter dash and 24.21 in the 200-meter dash.

"Jamila signing here at Towson solidifies our strong desire to recruit the best talent in the state of Maryland," Jackson said. "She is the top returning 100-meter runner in the state and looks to come out on top both indoors and outdoors this year. Jamila comes highly recommend from her high school coach, who often has called her a 'beast' in practice and competition. She is the top sprint recruit in our program's history and will have a chance at qualifying for USA Junior Championships in Eugene, Oregon in June. I'm excited that Jamila chose Towson and we look forward to a great four years."

Coghlan (Spotswood, N.J.) runs cross country and track and field for Spotswood High School. She joined the cross country team as a junior and led the team to the school's first White Division Championship and an undefeated season. Coghlan finished seventh overall at the 2014 New Jersey State Group Championships. On the track, she was the runner-up in the 1600-meter run at the 2015 Greater Middlesex County Outdoor Championships. Coghlan's personal bests include 5:00 for a 1600-meter run, 11:16 for a 3200-meter run and 19:11 for a 5K run.

"Ally is an outstanding runner and continues to improve each season," said Jackson. "I consider her to be one of the top distance recruits we have ever had in our program. The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) has some of the best cross country and distance runners in the country and we expect Ally to make an immediate impact within our conference. She has a great desire to succeed and we think that mindset will be contagious with her teammates when she arrives on campus next fall."

Towson opens the 2015-16 indoor track and field season at the Navy Lid Lifter on December 1.
