RICHMOND, Va. – After a season that included program records for a scoreless streak and consecutive wins, the Towson women's soccer program had two players earn All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Honors.
Senior center back
Vasthy Delgado was named All-CAA Second Team, while junior forward
Natalia Pinkney was tabbed All-CAA Third Team. Senior forward
Hollie Garber earned a place on the league's All-Academic team as well.
Delgado earned all-conference honors for the second time in her Tiger career after she was named to the third team last season. It is the second postseason conference honor for Pinkney while Garber earned a slot on the All-Academic team for a second-straight season.
Hofstra's Leah Galton was named CAA Player of the Year as the Pride earned the conference's top seed and host the league tournament this weekend. The 2015 CAA Defender of the Year was William & Mary's Caroline Casey as Drexel's Vanessa Kara was voted Rookie of the Year. UNCW's Paul Cairney was named Coach of the Year after guiding the Seahawks to a league-best 14-5-1 overall record.
Delgado, who hails from Arlington, Virginia, played nearly every minute of Tiger soccer this fall, logging 1,803 minutes out of a possible 1,828. The senior put that time to good use, anchoring a defense that did not allow a goal for a program record 551 minutes. A Latin American studies/psychology dual major, Delgado checked in offensively as well, registering eight points on three goals and two assists. Her shining moment for the season came in the finale. On Senior Day, Delgado ripped home the game-winning goal, the first such marker of her career, to lift Towson to a 1-0 win in her final game for the Black and Gold.
"I think Vasthy is deserving of being considered one of the best defenders in our conference," said head coach Greg Paytner, who concluded his ninth season at Towson. "I think this accolade certainly reinforces that. What she's meant to this team, game in and game out being the most consistent player we have. She contributes on both sides of the ball and was remarkable this year. It's a credit to what she's done over the course of her career."
Pinkney enjoyed a career season as she tucked away seven goals along with one assist for 15 points. Her seven goals represent the most goals in a season since Emily Banes in 2013. Three of Pinkney's markers were game-winners, including a double overtime winner against St. Francis. That goal was featured on SportsCenter's coveted Top 10 list the following morning. The junior from Perkasie, Pennsylvania was named CAA Player of the Week on August 31 after a two-goal weekend against High Point and Villanova. That same week, Pinkney earned honorable mention plaudits on TopDrawerSoccer.com's Team of the Week.
"Nat is a threat in every game," said Paynter of the speedy forward. "She wasn't 100 percent when we got into conference play and I think it showed a little bit but she's a player every team has to circle on their scouting report. It's a great recognition for her to be in the same discussion as the Leah Galtons and Maddie McCormick's of the world."
Garber earned a slot on the All-Academic Team for a second straight year. The chemistry and biology double major from Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania carries a 3.74 grade point average. The senior played and started in all 18 games for the Tigers this season, scoring two goals along with one assist for five points.
"Hollie is the model student-athlete. She holds herself to an unbelievably high standard in everything she does, soccer included," continued Paynter. "The fact that she's a perfectionist academically, it's a great credit to be recognized by the conference."
