TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University gymnastics team earned its highest team score since March of 2012 on Saturday evening as it defeated Penn 195.175-193.775. The Tigers outscored Penn on all but one event as Towson welcomed back its alumni for the Shelli Calloway Memorial Invitational.

"I'm very pleased with today's performance," Head Coach
Vicki Chliszczyk said. "We knew it was our alumni meet and we wanted to thank our alums for their support. They were remembering back to when they were competing on the team, although it wasn't in this arena. We wanted to show them what we were capable and the girls did it."
The Tigers ended the meet on floor where they earned their highest team total with a 49.175 total.
Tyra McKellar tied her career-high on floor as she won the event with a 9.900 total.
Nicolette Vignola finished second overall in the event with a career-high 9.875.

Towson started the meet on vault where Vignola led the Tigers with a career-high 9.75 total. Her score was high enough to win the event while
Katie Sassa (9.725) and
Lauren Cahalan (9.650) finished second and third overall. Â

Three Tigers earned 9.800 scores or higher on bars as McKellar led the Towson squad. McKellar grabbed a 9.875 score while
Lydia Thompson had a career-high 9.850 and
Samantha Lutz scored 9.800. The three Towson gymnasts finished one, two, three overall in the event.

Towson recorded two career-highs on beam as it was the only event that Penn outscored them in. McKellar had a career-high 9.825 while
Noelle Harada set a new career-high with a 9.775 score.
McKellar won the all-around with a score of 39.150.

The Tigers will be back in action when they travel to Maryland for a quad-meet that features EAGL foes William & Mary and George Washington on Friday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m.
