OPENING TIP: The Tiger women's basketball team plays its next to last regular season game when it visits Drexel on Sunday, March 1 for a 3 p.m. game. The game will be televised by the American Sports Network. In Baltimore, the game will be broadcast on the Comcast Network channel and in Philadelphia it will be on Comcast Sportsnet. Please check your local listings if you live outside that area. Towson Sports Network will also provide an audio feed with
Kevin Copp calling the game.
SERIES HISTORY: The Tigers resume one of their longest running series with the trip to Drexel Sunday. Towson and the Dragons have met 67 times previously with Drexel holding a 48-19 advantage in the series. The Dragons have won 11 straight against the Tigers including a 66-52 win when the two squads met earlier this season.
LaTorri Hines-Allen led all scorers with 23 points and 12 rebounds in that game while
Alexis Smith had 19 for Drexel. Towson's last win in the series came during the 2009-10 season at home.
SEEING DOUBLE: Towson had five players score in double figures in Sunday's overtime loss to UNC Wilmington. That group included
LaTorri Hines-Allen (16),
Dominique Johnson (16),
Breonn Hughey (13),
Ciara Webb (12) and
Camille Alberson (12). Hughey had a season-high 13 points scored in the game while Alberson matched her season-high with 12. It was the first time since Dec. 4, 2011 that the Tigers had five players score in double figures in the same game. In that contest, the Tigers posted a win over James Madison.
BATTLING FOR A SPOT: With just two games left in the regular season, the Tigers are in a battle for their spot in the CAA Tournament, which begins March 12. The Tigers are currently in eighth place, a game behind William & Mary. Towson's remaining schedule features games at Drexel (Sunday) and at William & Mary (March 4).
DOMO GOES DEEP: Junior guard
Dominique Johnson knocked down a pair of three-pointers against UNCW on Sunday. That gave her 62 three-pointers this season and 147 for her career. Johnson is just the fifth player in program history to hit 60 or more three-pointers in a single-season. She currently ranks second for three-pointers in a single-season and needs five more to move into the top two.
Tara Rottet holds the school record for single-season threes with 73. Johnson's second three-pointer against Drexel on Feb. 15 moved her into second place on the career three-pointers list at Towson. The school record for career three-pointers is 190 set by
Mia Chapman.
WELCOME TO THE BLOCK PARTY: Towson had five blocked shots to UNC Wilmington's two on Sunday. The Tigers have now recorded more blocks than their opponents in 16 of the 28 games this season. Towson is 9-7 when it outblocks its opponents this season. Four Tigers have recorded at least 10 blocks this season (
LaTorri Hines-Allen-32,
Camille Alberson-18,
Ciara Webb-14,
Daijha Thomas-11). Its the first time since the 2009-10 season that the Tigers have four players with 10 or more blocks in the same season. Towson's 101 blocks this season are the most for the team since the 2008-09 season when the team recorded 107.
SINGLE-SEASON IMPACT: Towson redshirt senior forward
LaTorri Hines-Allen has recorded 481 points and 272 rebounds this season. She currently ranks ninth for single-season points at Towson and seventh for single-season rebounds as a Tiger. Hines-Allen needs 21 more rebounds to move into the top five for single-season rebounds. She needs 59 more points to move into the top five in that category. If she can tally 19 more points this season she would become just the fifth player in program history to score 500 points in a single-season.
UP NEXT: Towson closes out the regular season by visiting William & Mary on Wednesday, March 4.
