Women's Basketball Welcomes Elon to SECU on Thursday

OPENING TIP: Hoping to build on the momentum of Sunday's big win over the College of Charleston, the Tiger women's basketball team welcomes Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) newcomer Elon to SECU Arena on Thursday, Feb. 5 for a 7 p.m. game.

SERIES HISTORY: The Tigers welcome their newest conference opponent to SECU Arena Thursday. The Tigers and Elon met for the first time ever on January 18 in North Carolina. In that game, the Phoenix claimed a 58-43 win behind 16 points from Zora Stephenson. Dominique Johnson had 11 points and six assists for the Tigers.

THAT WAS A BIG ONE: Towson defeated College of Charleston, 71-49 on Sunday afternoon. The 22-point win for the Tigers was the largest this season and also marked Towson's largest margin of victory under Head Coach Niki Reid Geckeler. It was the largest margin of victory for the Tigers since they defeated George Mason by 27, 65-38 on Jan. 20, 2008.

DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE: Redshirt senior forward LaTorri Hines-Allen had 12 points and 15 rebounds in the win over Charleston for a double-double. Hines-Alllen has recorded a double-double in six of the 10 CAA games. Overall, Hines-Allen has 11 double-doubles this year. She leads the team and the CAA in that category. As of Monday morning, the Tigers had the CAA leader in double-doubles on both the women's and the men's side of the ball (Hines-Allen - 11 and John Davis - 10). Five programs out of 364 Division I basketball programs have the women's and men's conference leader in double-doubles (Wake Forest-ACC, Kennesaw State-Atlantic Sun, Towson-CAA, Lehigh-Patriot and Bakersfield-Western).

FIFTY BELOW: The Tigers held College of Charleston to just 49 points on Sunday. It marked the second time this season the Tigers held an opponent to 49 points and the third time the team held an opponent to 50 points or less. Towson is 3-0 this season when it holds an opponent to 50 points or less and 5-0 under Head Coach Niki Reid Geckeler.

MISS ASSIST: Freshman guard Breonn Hughey had seven assists for the Tigers against the College of Charleston. Hughey has 93 assists in 20 games for the Tigers this season. She has five or more assists in 12 games this year including a season-high 10 helpers against George Mason in December. Hughey currently ranks fourth in the CAA in assists per game (4.7) and second in assist to turnover ratio (1.9).

CLEARING THE GLASS: The Tigers won the rebounding battle against College of Charleston, 47-40. Nine of the 11 Tigers that appeared in the game grabbed at least one rebound. Redshirt senior forward LaTorri Hines-Allen led the way with 15 while senior forward Camille Alberson had eight. It was the seventh time this season, the Tigers won the rebounding battle. Towson is 4-3 in those games. Since the start of last season, the Tigers are 15-12 when they win the battle on the boards.

THREE SEEING DOUBLE: One of the keys to success for the Tigers this season has been spreading the scoring wealth around. Senior LaTorri Hines-Allen (12), junior Dominique Johnson (19) and freshman Breonn Hughey (10) all scored in double figures against College of Charleston. It was the sixth time this season the Tigers have had three players reach double digits in the scoring column and the Tigers are 5-1 in those contests.

UP NEXT: Towson hits the road to visit Northeastern on Sunday, Feb. 8. The Tigers return to SECU Arena on Thursday, Feb. 12 to host James Madison in a special 12 noon start.

The 2015 CAA Women's Basketball Championship will be held March 12-15 at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Md. Call 1-855-TU-TIGER for your tickets.
