Tigers Battle No. 1 JMU in Friday's CAA Quarterfinals

OPENING TIP: After a thrilling 79-70 win over College of Charleston in the first round of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament on Thursday, the No. 8 Tiger women's basketball team goes back to work on Friday, March 13. Towson faces the No. 1 seed, James Madison at 12 noon. The game will be televised by the American Sports Network and shown local on CSN Mid-Atlantic. In addition Towson Sports Network will provide audio feed with Ben Rosenbaum and Ian Jett calling the game.

SERIES HISTORY: The Tigers will face a tough task Friday as they battle No. 1 James Madison. The Dukes lead the all-time series between the two schools 36-3 and have won eight straight in the match-up. When the two squads met in Harrisonburg in the CAA opener, JMU used a pair of late foul shots to pull off the 67-66 comeback win. In the meeting in Towson, James Madison opened up a significiant half-time advantage and held off a second half run by the Tigers for the 79-64 win.

IN THE CAA TOURNAMENT: In their 14th appearance in the CAA Tournament, the Tigers claimed a win for the first time since the 2008-09 season and just the third time in the program's CAA history. Friday's game is the fourth between the Tigers and Dukes in CAA Tournament action. James Madison claimed a 63-61 win the first round in 2004, a 71-66 win in the quarter finals in 2005 and a 59-48 win the quarterfinals in 2013. Towson will be looking to advance to the CAA semifinals for just the second time in program history (2008) with a win today.

DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE: First team All-CAA forward LaTorri Hines-Allen had 26 points and 11 rebounds against the College of Charleston Thursday to post a double-double.
Hines-Allen has 14 double-doubles this year. She leads the team and the CAA in that category. She recorded a double-double in eight of the 18 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) games.
Hines-Allen's 14 double-doubles this season are the most by a Tiger since Debbie Oraczewski had 14 double-doubles during the 1985-86 season. The most double-doubles by a Tiger was 18 which Norma Kelly had during the 1983-84 season.

REWORKING THE TOWSON CAA TOURNAMENT RECORD BOOK: Towson made some new marks in its CAA Tournament record book in Thursday's win over College of Charleston.
Junior guard Dominique Johnson went 10-for-13 from the foul line, setting the new record for free throws made and attempted by a Tiger in a CAA Tournament game. As a team, the Tigers set the new program mark for points in CAA Tournament game with 79. The Tigers also established a new mark for field goals in a CAA Tournament contest (26).

FROM BEHIND THE ARC: Towson guards Dominique Johnson and Ciara Webb combined to make five of the Tigers' six three-pointers on Thursday. That raised Johnson's season total to 69 three-pointers made and Webb's to 51. It is the first time in program history that the Tigers have had two players with 50 or more three-pointers in the same season.

MISS ASSIST: Freshman guard Breonn Hughey had three assists against College of Charleston Thursday. Hughey has 131 assists in 29 games for the Tigers this season. She currently ranks fifth in single-season history for assists. She is just the fourth player in program history to record 130 or more assists in a single-season. She has five or more assists in 15 games this year. Hughey dished out a a season-high 10 helpers against George Mason in December. She then matched that mark with her performance against Drexel. It is the first time since Betty Lou Bischof in 1985 that a Tiger has had 10 or more assists in two games in the same season.

SINGLE-SEASON IMPACT: Towson redshirt senior forward LaTorri Hines-Allen has made an impact this season with her points scored and rebounds. Hines-Allen has 533 points and 298 rebounds this year. She ranks sixth for single-season points at Towson and fourth for single-season rebounds. Hines-Allen needs seven more points to move into the top five in that category. She needs two more rebounds to become the fourth player in program history with 300 or more rebounds in a single-season. She also needs nine more rebounds to move into the top three. In addition, Hines-Allen hit 10 field goals on Thursday and became the fourth player in program history to make 200 or more field goals in a single-season.

UP NEXT: The winner of Friday's game will face the winner of No. 4 Elon/No. 5 UNCW on Saturday at 1 p.m.
