TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's gymnastics team scored a season-high team total of 196.525 in its season-closer meet at George Washington on Sunday afternoon. The score was the third highest team total in program history and the highest in 12 years. The Tigers set 10 new career-highs and tied six career-highs in the meet as they were narrowly outscored by George Washington who earned a team score of 196.875.

Towson (10-12) exceled on beam during the meet, posting the highest team score for the event and setting a new school record with a total of 49.250. The Tigers were led by
Lauren Ross who tied for first-overall with a career-high 9.900 score. She was followed by
Bridget Steffen and
Samantha Lutz who both set career-highs (9.875) to place third for the event.
Tyra McKellar finished in fifth-place with a score of 9.850, tying her career-high.

The Tigers started the meet on bars where they outscored George Washington with a season-high team total of 49.200. McKellar and
Vicki Vesecky tied for first-place in the event with matching 9.900 scores. McKellar's score tied her career-high while Vesecky's was a new career-high. Lutz tied her career-high with a 9.850 to place third in the event. Four Tigers earned a 9.775 score;
Noelle Harada, Ross, Steffen and
Lydia Thompson. Harada and Steffen tied their career-highs for the event with the score.

Towson set two career-highs on vault to finish with a season-high team total of 48.900.
Katie Sassa tied her career-high with a 9.875 to place fifth in the event. Lutz and McKellar set new career-highs on vault with a 9.700 score and a 9.800, respectively.

The Tigers were impressive on floor as well, setting three career-highs for the event. Towson finished with a total of 49.175, led by McKellar who tied for third-overall (9.875).
Bayleigh Fobes was in action for the first time this season on floor, scoring a career-high 9.800. Also recording career-highs was
Janis Konkle (9.800) and Lutz (9.825).
Lauren Cahalan tied her career-high for the event with a 9.850.

McKellar and Lutz both competed in the all-around, finishing third and fourth for the event. McKellar had a career-high 39.425 while Lutz competed for the first time in her career, earning 39.250.

Towson will play host to the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championships on Sunday, March 22. George Washington was originally scheduled to host the event but scheduling conflicts moved the meet to SECU Arena. Stay tuned to TowsonTigers.com this week for more information.
